  • Microscopic Imaging of Dental Plaque

    May 2, 2012

Do you know that in North America 87% of the adult population suffers from some degree of gum disease and do you know that gum disease is CATCHING?

You can and do pass it on to your loved ones and people who happen to get in the way of your sneeze, or drink from your just-rinsed cup, or shared food with you at a “dipping” food event.

Gum disease can be called GINGIVITIS, PYORRHEA, PERIODONTITIS, GUM RECESSION, PERIODONTAL POCKETS, OR IN VERY SEVERE FORM, TRENCHMOUTH. However, you do not need to lose your teeth or have gum surgery to heal these conditions.

How do you know if you have a gum infection hiding in your mouth?
Your gums are probably infected if:
    - your teeth are loose or are shifting
    - you think you may have a bad breath
    - you experience a sour or salty taste
    - you have morning breath that is not sweet
    - you feel like there is something stuck between your teeth even after you have flossed

Undetected and unhandled infection spreads into your blood stream. The pathogens can settle in areas such as the pancreas, the heart valve and even cause diabetes. Many people report that they get the “flu” after dental cleaning because the infection can broadcast throughout the whole body.

    Microscopic Dental  Plaque Analysis Test
This test will reveal the bacteria, fungi or parasites that live in your gum plaque. Natural treatment will be recommended, so you can get rid of the infection and heal your suffering gums. The test is done by Dr Oksana Sawiak in our clinic.

    How is the test done?
A sample of your plaque is gathered from around the gum line of the teeth, and placed on a microscopic slide. A coverslip covers this and squeezes the sample into a 1 cell thickness. This process allows the easy identification of any pathogens (germs), and if there is a camera and monitor on the microscope, you will be able to see what is going on in your mouth as well.
Cost is $25 for the test. If your need further treatment, a full wellness consultation with Dr Sawiak is available for $50.
